"Painting is easy when you don't know how, but very difficult when you do." - Edgar Degas

My first love was the unforgiving and delicate medium of watercolor. I now paint with the organically beautiful medium of oil to create endless effects. I feel as a painter it's important to progress, to push the limits, to try new things. Painting is a balancing act between opposite ideas - direct observation and intuition, control and spontaneity, even between the literal and figurative.

About Lois

Lois resides in Calgary with her husband with whom she shares a love of travel, sailing and skiing. Her passion for art began through her studies of interior design. Since then she has progressed through study at The University of Alberta, ACAD, and local art schools. She has found inspiration through past and present masters, her professional mentors and peers, the beauty and joy in nature, and a continuous desire to progress.

When she paints she hopes to reach beyond the canvas and engage the viewer to connect and share a moment engaging the heart, mind, and soul. Lois's passion for painting flows onto each canvas. With an expressionistic style she achieves freshness and vibrancy. Collectors of her work are attracted to her approach to color as well as the French impressionistic slant her paintings express. When her paintings are on the walls the space takes on a feeling of happiness.
